Implementation of precision agriculture in cooperation with the Agricultural University of Athens

Challenge

The purpose of this research is to implement practices of Precision Agriculture in the arable land of Agricultural University of Athens placed in Aliartos, Viotia, using a small Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV), that carries multispectral sensors and various terrestrial sensors for vegetation indices production.

Results

In this research, which is in progress, we accomplish air and ground measurements in periodical repetitions in 1,1 km2 of arable crop fields of wheat, oats, corn, cotton and alfalfa. Aiming to observe the development of the crops and detect problems, such as appearance of weeds and lack of water and nutrients, multispectral sensors (RGB, Near-InfraRed, Red-Edge and Thermal) are used, in order to create Vegetation Index maps (NDVI, Chlorophyll Index etc) and thermal maps.
